The Cape Cod Rail Trail is on a 22mile span of refurbished railroad right-of-way. It passes through the towns of Dennis, Harwich, Brewster, Orleans, Eastham and Wellfleet. The tracks and station houses were removed in the 1960's. Extensions to the Rail Trail have been added that take the bike path to Provincetown on the tip of Cape Cod. Visit the Massachusetts' Department of Conservation & Recreation to read about the Cape Cod Rail Trail Bike Path. You should not miss the fantastic magazine published by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy - available now is the 2015 Green Issue.
For a short, straight and unique ride, consider a ride along the Cape Cod Canal. This is an often overlooked ride. The Cape Cod Canal Bike Path is approximately 6.5 miles on each side of the Canal that separates Cape Cod from the rest of Massachusetts. It offers an unique place to ride and view the waterway, and the hectic bridge traffic overhead. Read about the paved canal path here on the Mass DOT site.
